YDC BMW Shift Rod V4 — DIY Cut & Weld

The YDC BMW Shift Rod V4 is a DIY steel DSSR kit for building a selector rod to suit your gearbox and shifter setup. Cut the tubes to the required length, align the forks directly on the vehicle, and weld the assembly once the fit is correct

The standard kit includes two 200 mm tubes, giving you material to prepare the rod for your installation. Free shortening is available before shipping if you already know the required mounting length

Designed for BMW manual gearboxes using a compatible 22 mm selector rod joint, it works with compatible OEM shifter assemblies, YDC shifters, and many other aftermarket shifters

Features:

• DIY cut-and-weld construction — prepare the rod to suit your actual installation
• Two 200 mm tubes included in the standard kit
• Length and fork alignment set before welding — position the components to match your gearbox joint and shifter
• Free tube shortening before shipping — provide your required mounting length and we will prepare the tubes, leaving final alignment and welding to you
• Steel dual-shear design supports both sides of compatible linkage connections for a rigid assembly once correctly welded
• Adjustment washers in different thicknesses help achieve the correct fit with compatible OEM and aftermarket shifters
• Useful for engine swaps, gearbox conversions, and relocated shifters where the required linkage geometry is best established on the vehicle
• Fixed-length construction after welding — the finished rod has no length-adjustment clamp

Standard kit:

The kit is supplied with two 200 mm tubes for cutting and fitting.
These dimensions refer to the individual tubes, not the finished center-to-center length of the assembled rod. The final mounting length depends on the fork geometry, tube overlap, and amount removed during preparation

Free shortening service:

If you already know the required rod length, select “Shortened for your required rod length — no extra charge” and enter the center-to-center mounting length in millimeters in the order comment

This is the distance between the centers of the mounting holes, not the outside length of the rod or the length of an individual tube

We will prepare the tubes to suit the specified dimension so that, for the agreed geometry, you can proceed with final fitting, fork alignment, and welding without cutting the tubes yourself

Please include your gearbox and shifter details, particularly for engine swaps or non-standard installations. If any dimensions need clarification, we will contact you before cutting

If no shortening is requested, the kit will be supplied with two full-length 200 mm tubes

Fitting and welding:

Position the gearbox and shifter correctly in neutral, then fit the components and establish the required mounting length and relative fork angle

Check the linkage alignment, gear engagement, and clearance throughout the shift pattern before final welding. Maintain sufficient tube overlap for the joint

Welding is required for every V4 kit, including kits shortened before shipping

The shortening service does not include welding or final assembly

Final welding should be completed by a competent welder, with the rod removed from the vehicle. Recheck fitment and operation after welding

The finished rod is not adjustable. If you need to fine-tune the length and fork angle after installation, choose the YDC BMW Shift Rod V2 — Adjustable. If you want a finished rod welded by YDC to agreed dimensions, choose the YDC BMW Shift Rod V3 — Made-to-Length

Compatibility:

Designed for BMW manual gearboxes equipped with a compatible 22 mm selector rod joint

Suitable for YDC shifters, compatible OEM shifter assemblies, and many aftermarket shifters, provided the connection dimensions, finished rod geometry, and available clearance are suitable

Some gearbox configurations use a wider selector rod joint. These require a suitable 22 mm replacement joint compatible with the gearbox

BMW xDrive models: please contact us before ordering, as the transfer case and surrounding components may affect clearance

For engine swaps, relocated shifters, and other custom installations, check the actual mounting dimensions rather than choosing the rod length by chassis name alone
